Empowering Youth Through Project Management for SDGs
Share
Introduction
At Bigger Life, we believe young people can lead sustainable change through storytelling and education. By teaching project management skills within our SDG curricula, we empower students to become problem-solvers and ESG advocates. This blog explores how these skills align with our mission and how you can join us in shaping a sustainable future.
Why Project Management Matters for Youth
Project management equips students with essential skills:
- Time Management: Prioritizing tasks to meet deadlines.
- Collaboration: Working in teams to share ideas.
- Problem-Solving: Tackling challenges creatively.
- Leadership: Guiding projects with purpose.
These skills prepare youth for academic success and future careers, especially in ESG and sustainability, where 67% of Hong Kong businesses prioritize such expertise in 2025 (Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce).
How Bigger Life Teaches Project Management
Our SDG curricula, rolling out to Hong Kong schools in January 2025, integrate project management through:
- Practical Projects: Students plan SDG-focused initiatives, like our year-end SDG Storytelling Competition or School Carbon Emission Tracking.
- Teamwork: Collaborative tasks foster communication and diverse perspectives.
- Guidance: Teachers and volunteers provide mentorship, inspired by our co-founder Jane Tse’s PMP certifications.
For example, students might organize a school event to promote SDG 13 (Climate Action), learning to set goals, manage timelines, and evaluate outcomes. Advanced skills like project risk management is taught in our curricula.
Benefits for Students
- Confidence: Completing projects builds independence.
- Growth Mindset: Embracing challenges prepares students for lifelong learning.
- Sustainability Impact: Skills align with SDGs, empowering youth to drive ESG change.
